![]() My first connection to the story was very visceral like, “Wow. Bresha physically reminded me, when I saw her, of what my daughter looked like when she was 15. What made you want to use the story of Bresha Meadows on “She’s My Hero”?īresha Meadows was a story that I was thinking about and I felt connected to because I have a young daughter. I’ve done that with other artists myself, so I understand that instinct. But I think it’s interesting with me that it seems people that use my music and do a song with me have a chance to sort of purge and show a different side of themselves. Every once in a while I go to an artist and ask to be on a song. A lot of times, these artists come to me. Same with Rick Ross and other artists that I’ve worked with, like Gucci Mane. He lives a life as a man where he’s not always in the strip club turning up. I was partying with Waka in Vegas, and he was like, “Let’s do a song.” I took him up on the offer and he knocked it out very quickly. Just because they’re talented in one style of music doesn’t mean they always move in that space. If you listen to his verse on the album, he says “I’m enlightened now, they frightened now.” He’s like a lot of artists that are very multidimensional. Hope this helps! Also, dont get too attatched like I did.How did you and Waka Flocka Flame get to working together in the studio? The album just came out this year and its soooo overlooked. Kweli kills all of D's beats and D even raps on a couple songs too. Gotham is Kweli and Diamond D, who produced and rapped for DITC. Radio Silence is a newer Kweli album drowned in a sea of like 10 random ones he dropped, I put it here because its a pretty decent one of his and it's good to know new Kweli. Especially Eardrum, which is like a mix of that mainstream shit and Train Of Thought at times. The first 3 solo albums were released in the 2000s, so they kind of capitilize on that mainstream pop sound, but they grew on me. Hi-Tek made like half the beats on Black Star, and this album here just sounds beautiful too. Train of Thought is a whole full album of Kweli produced by Hi-Tek, who both make up Reflection Eternal. Black Star - Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Starīlack Star comprises of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, who have an album that is a jazzy, slick, amazing masterpiece. (Or just search "Kweli" in this sub)īut for a simpler and more clear explanation. I have a guide on my profile, which you can also find in the subreddit's wiki. It is I, the Kweli historian, thanks Riso The Wiki: Guide to Artists, Lyrics, Albums, Resources, & Cities. This is a place to ask questions/recommendations without worrying about any kind of backlash, so if you know something someone does not, politely educate them rather than berate them.Ignoring these rules may lead to a permanent ban.
